KABUL: Despite zero level of poppy cultivation in Ghanikhel district of eastern Nangarhar province, the local officials said that this district has recently turned into a safe haven for drug factories as the district located on the side of Duran Line.
Addressing a press conference, Ghanikhel district governor, Muallem Mashouq said that district was famous for drug smuggling due to its geographical location on the Durand Line as the smugglers were trafficking poppy to the other side on the crossing line.
“Drug is transited to other side of the crossing line to ‘Pakistan’- a neighboring state that never been honest with us,” he said.
Meanwhile, district chief for Batikot district, Abdul Wahab has expressed optimism about the development of security situation in the district, saying that several projects which include agriculture, health, clean water management with the worth of 243 million Afs have been completed in the district.
He added that a number of construction projects would be inaugurated in the upcoming Afghan calendar year.
Nangarhar is among insecure provinces in the eastern Afghanistan. The province is known as one of the safe haven for ISI-K or Daesh extremist group. But, talking to a press conference, President Ashraf Ghani has recently said that dozens of Deash fighters have been killed and arrested by the Afghan security forces in Nangarhar.
