KABUL: President Ashraf Ghani has ordered the immediate arrest of former public order police commander Zamarai Paikan, who has been accused of corruption.
Speaking at the annual Anti-Corruption Conference at the presidential palace, President Ghani said that Paikan had changed the public order police into a corruption store.
Afghanistan reputation and our political intentions are under question, he said, ordering Interior Minister to immediately arrest Paikan.
“This guy was convicted, so he must be behind bars, it is not tolerable, when the judicial organs have issued order and it is yet to be implemented,” he added.
Paikan has been convicted to eight years and six months jail terms by primary court of Anti-Corruption Judicial Center (ACJC) on the charge of duty negligence and corruption.
