KABUL: At least 68 Taliban militants have been killed and 20 others wounded in multiple extensive military crackdowns carried out by the Afghan security forces across the country in the past 24 hours, security officials said Monday.
Ministry of Defense in a statement said the Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personal conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Uruzgan, Ghor, Laghman, Ghazni, Farah, Paktia, Helmand and Herat provinces, in which 68 militants were killed and 20 others wounded.
25 more Taliban militants were also detained and handed over to the related judicial organs for further inquiry, the ministry added.
Afghan National Defense and Security Forces shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.
During these operations, 10 Taliban fighters were killed, 12 arrested, 300kg explosives, 12 tunnels, 28 rounds of mine, one vehicle and two motorbike of the enemy with some weapons and ammunitions destroyed in Shahid Ehsas district of Urzgan—five militants killed and eight others wounded in Alishing district of Laghman—five insurgents killed and three others wounded in Muqur and Gilan districts of Ghazni—three rebels killed and seven others arrested in Farah province.
Similarly, two terrorists linked with Haqqani Terrorist Network were killed and one wounded in Sayed Karam district of Paktia—one insurgent was killed in Washir district of Helmand and six rebels were arrested in Ghorian district of Herat province.
In past 24 hours, 17 planed clearing operations, and Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air Forces conducted aerial operations supporting Afghan National Army including 21 strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.
