KABUL: The streets of Jalalabad, the capital city for eastern Nangarhar province have been packed with widespread marches by hundreds of supporters of presidential candidate, Abdullah Abdullah, in which they called for transparency, asking for segregation of clean votes from the fraudulent one.
Former member of the parliament, Abdulzahir Qadeer, who was among the protestors, said that the government should not interfere in the electoral commission’s affairs.
He emphasized that the Independent Election Commission should announce the transparent results despite pressurization by any side. He warned that if the election triggered in crisis, the “government will be responsible for any dire consequences.”
The protestors with the slogan of “death on fraudulent individuals” have demanded the prosecution of the people who interfere in the election process.
This comes as Abdullah’s supporters had earlier staged demonstration in capital Kabul and northern Badakhshan, Kunduz, Baghlan and Panjshir provinces. The team demands the election commission to nullify the 300,000 votes, which it claims had been illegally casted.
On September 28th, thousands of Afghans from all over the country have dared violence and security threats and came out of homes to cast their votes and play their role in perseverance of democracy in Afghanistan. But, the recent tension among the candidates and IEC, have dashed the ground the hope of Afghans for a better future.
