KABUL: A number of civil activists have staged protest in Jalalabad, the capital city of eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday against the use of Pakistani rupees, asking for complete popularizing of Afghani currency in daily business across the province.
Nangarhar Press Disk in a statement said that civil activists have asked for complete promoting of Afghani currency, asking the residents to use Afghani rupees instead of Pakistani in their daily business.
The protestors called on the government, traders and the residents to do their commercial dealing by using Afghani currency and completely stop Pakistani rupees.
A special commission has been established to popularize Afghani currency in Nangarhar province, the statement added.
According to statement, Governor Shah Mahmood Miakhil has established a special commission to promote using of Afghani currency in Jalalabad city and other districts of the province.
Members from municipality, transport, national directorate of security, traders, money exchangers and provincial council representatives are the members of the commission.
The commission would continually observe the city in order to promote use of Afghani currency, he said, adding, the violators would be dealt according to the law.
He also called on all government officials to spray no efforts in promoting Afghan currency.
Provincial NDS Head, General Nazar Ali Wahidi has said that Afghani currency is “our national identity”. “We will exert utmost efforts to promote using Afghani currency in the city and to the districts across the province.”
Traders and money exchanger representatives pledged to make all-out efforts to promote Afghani currency and carry their daily dealing by Afghani currency across the province.
