KABUL: Afghan security forces “repelled” a coordinate Taliban attack on a joint army-police security checkpoint in Ghazni province, provincial police chief said, adding that 11 Taliban fighters were killed in the failed offensive.
The attack against the checkpoint in Shahbaz area on the Kabul-Kandahar highway was occurred on Tuesday night, the police chief Mohammad Khalid Wardak said Wednesday.
According to Wardak, the Taliban left the area after receiving casualties. “Air supports were also involved in the attack.”
Mirwais Akrami, the police commander of the highway, was also injured in the clashes with the Taliban, Wardak, quoted by TOLONews as saying.
“A soldier was killed in the attack, and police commander Mirwais and another policeman were wounded in the clashes,” he added.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the clashes.
