KABUL: The use of foreign currency, especially the Pakistani rupees, has been utterly banned in eastern Nangarhar province. The development made after a week of campaign against using of foreign currency, particularly the Pakistani rupees. From today (Sunday) all the transaction would take place in the Afghani currency instead of Pakistani rupees.
Nangarhar Governor, Shah Mahmood Miakhil has ordered the municipality to announce that only Afghani currency will be acceptable in Jalalabad city, and all other districts of the province.
All traders, business dealers, drivers and citizens must have change their foreign currency to Afghani, the governor was quoted as saying in a statement issued by Nangarhar Press Disk.
“Only Afghani currency would be accepted in the markets of the city and districts of the province from today (Sunday),” the statement added.
According to the statement, the violators would face legal action if violated the rules.
Provincial Governor, Shah Mahmood Miakhil had recently established a special commission to promote using of Afghani currency in the province.
Furthermore, a number of civil activists recently staged protest in Jalalabad, the capital city against using of Pakistani rupees and have asked for complete popularizing of Afghani currency in daily business across the province.
