KABUL: The Lower House of the Parliament or Wolesi Jirga on Saturday voiced grave concern over recent tragic events where three Afghanistan National Army (ANA) choppers fell out of the sky, saying a probe should be launched into these incidents and the reason behind them ascertained.
According to recent reports, a helicopter crash-landed in western Farah province, leaving two crew members onboard dead; one copter made a hard-landing in southern Paktia province; and another chopper also performed an emergency landing in southern Paktia province.
Lawmaker Belqis Roshan called for a serious investigation into the incident which claimed the lives of two pilots. “The equipment provided to our security forces are seemingly cast-off and worn-out apparatus from World War I. They are colored and donated to Afghanistan, hence the technical problems and fatalities.”
According to her, the engine of the chopper broke down due to technical issues and killed people.
Another legislator, Khalid Assad, said the military authorities should be held accountable for the recent incidents in the Afghan Air Force. “Over the past three days, three helicopters have collapsed. Did all of them have technical problems? Or are there other underlying reasons? It seems the people in charge have neglected to resolve such issues,” he noted.
Another member of the parliament, Abdullah Moahmmadi said: “This is a dangerous issue and very damageable for Afghanistan. The reasons for these incidents should be clarified.”
Meanwhile, Wolesi Jirga Speaker Mir Rahman Rahmani appointed a delegation to investigate the issues and bring the perpetrators to justice.
