AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Officials in the Central Bank said Sunday that those behind allegedly robbing of Afs76 million from a branch of the state bank in southern Kandahar province have been identified, and would be arrested in near future.
Azadi Radio quoted the second deputy chief of Da Afghanistan Bank, Isa Turab, as saying that the primary investigations reveal that Sayid Ahmad Agha with two of his colleagues has found access to keys of the bank’s treasury and allegedly robbed the money. He said investigations are going on to know how they succeeded to take away the money.
“Security cameras show that three employees led by Sayid Ahmad Agha, head of the Spin Boldak branch have opened the treasury. At first, it was believed that all the money was robbed but after opening the three doors of the treasury, we found that only Afs76 million was taken away from the branch,” he added.
He said that Sayid Ahmad Agha has escaped to Pakistan and the security forces were trying to bring him back to the country.
According to the Da Afghanistan Bank, more than Afs81 million was kept in Spin Boldak branch.
A number of critics suggest that money in banks should be changed into credit card system. They said that this would save the government’s budget from any threat and also it would increase the trust of people on state and private banks in the country.
