KABUL: With new 28 covid-19 cases – the total number has now stands to 309 with seven deaths in Afghanistan, said health authorities on Saturday.
In a press briefing, Spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health Wahidullah Mayar said 11 cases recorded in Kabul, 10 in Herat, two in Samangan, and one in Balkh, Kunduz, Faryab, Ghazni and Logar in each province in the past 23 hours.
“Seven covid-19 patients died, and 12 others recovered across the country,” he said, confirming one death in Kabul – the patient was a man with over 70 years old age.
Mr. Mayar warned of more cases in the future as Afghan authorities had put Kabul and Herat provinces in a strict quarantine, but health officials not satisfied. “It’s movement restriction, not a complete quarantine,” Mayar said.
Kabul is in the second week of its lockdown, but the residents did not follow the rule, forcing reinforcement agencies to take action against violators.
Kabul has been in lockdown for second week as authorities scramble to contain the wild spread of the coronavirus outbreak amid gloomy forecast of virus infections and fatalities.
All shops except selling necessities are being shut down and restaurants will have to confine themselves to food catering and delivering.
Travel from and to Kabul is also banned and all government offices and institutions will be closed for 3 weeks.
