AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Separately, two Taliban commanders, Qari Abdul Khabir, and Qari Eidi Mohammad along with their men joined the government initiated peace process in northeastern Badakhshan province, officials said on Monday.
“The two groups were involved in anti-state activities however they handed over their ammunitions to the government,” officials said.
Qari Abdul Khabir, a commander of 18 member militants group renounced violence on Sunday, whereas Qari Eidi Mohammad, a commander of 11 member insurgents joined peace process on Monday, the officials further said. Qair Eidi Mohammad was also known as ex-shadow governor of the Taliban in Tagab district of the province.
Badakhshan Police Chief, Baba Jan, said the surrendered militants pledged to make all out efforts to maintain peace in the province.
“Not only we want to live in a peaceful atmosphere but will also help in restoring security in Tagab district,” the ex-Taliban commander Qair Abdul Khabir said.
Baba Jan further went on saying that their reintegration into normal life proved that insurgency is devastation.
“We will never take arms against the government again,” the ex-militant commanders vowed.
