KABUL: Some police officers in Wardak province say they were not paid for 10 months, despite serving round the clock far from their families.
They say that officials in the ministry of interior have not yet met their frequent demands for salary.
“We are serving at the Kabul gate unit. We are bored with this life. Our families ask about our life condition and that where we are or what we eat,” said an officer without introducing himself. “I live in Kabul. I haven’t received my salary for 10 months. I don’t know what is the problem. I don’t know who to tell. I am completely helpless.”
A senior police official in Wardak confirmed the officers were not paid for 10 months. “What the officers said is true. There are bunches of problems with their lives. They are serving here from far distance areas. Their families call and ask them if they are even alive or if they have been paid.”
Officials in Kabul say the unit was newly established, so it would take time to pay them.
Ferdaus Faramarz, the Kabul police spokesman, assured the officers would be paid soon.
This is not the first time that security forces complain about their salaries.
