KABUL: With 234 new positive cases in the last 24 hours, Afghanistan now officially has 29,715 cases across the country. The Ministry of Public Health on Wednesday said that out of 651 suspected samples, 234 were positive—a scene of slight reduction for a 6th consecutive day in a row.
21 patients have died of the virus and 609 others recovered during this period, the health ministry said.
The total tally of the deaths has now stood by 639 and the recuperative to 9,869 since the detection of the first infection in Herat province around three months ago.
124 cases were registered in Kabul, 34 in Heart, 24 in Bamyan, 10 in Nangarhar, eight in Badghis and seven each in Kunar and Kapisa provinces.
Similarly, six cases were recorded in Badakhshan, four in Daykundi, three in Logar, three in Pajshir and two each in Parwan and Laghman provinces.
Overall, there has been a slight reduction in the cases of coronavirus, but the health ministry warned of a rebound in infections if social distancing is not observed.
