KABUL: The Editor-in-Chief of “Islah”, a government newspaper, Dad Mohammad Anabi has lost his life battling the coronavirus, NIA—Supporting Free Media announced on Sunday. According to NAI, six journalists have so far died of the virus.
Anabi’s relatives said that he died on Sunday morning in Afghan-Japan hospital. The hospital is merely for covid-19 patients where tens of patients are under medical treatment at the moment.
NAI called on the government, media outlets and media workers to pay serious efforts to stop the spread of the virus in their community.
Anabi was born in 1964 in Shikh Ali district of central Parwan province. He took his basic lessons in his birth place and then migrated to Iran, the neighboring country after the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1977.
He took some education there in Qum city of Iran and returned home in the 1992s after the collapse of President Najibullah’s government. He was a member of the Hezb-e-Wahdat led by Abdul Ali Mazari, who was killed by the Taliban in 1995.
In 2002, Anabi worked as head of the high media council and then worked as head of the Afghanistan National Radio-Television. Since 2013 he has been working as head of a government newspaper “Islah”.
The “Islah” newspaper was founded in 1921 in Khan Abad city of northern Kunduz. The newspaper was then published as one page. It included editorial, national and international news, literature and some amusement subjects.
