KABUL: At least 39 Taliban fighters, including Pakistani militants were killed in different military sting by the Afghan security forces and an airstrike by the NATO in southern Kandahar province on Monday night, officials said on Tuesday.
Jointly with Panjabi militants, the Taliban fighters had attacked checkpoints of the Afghan security forces in Takhta Pul district. “Five Taliban insurgents were killed in retaliation by the Afghan security forces,” Kandahar Governor, Tadin Khan Achakzai said.
Shortly, NATO Resolute Support conducted an airstrike pondering the area that killed 20 terrorists, including Panjabi militants, the governor said. Their dead bodies are on the ground, he said, and handed over the bodies to the tribal elders.
Similarly, 14 Taliban rebels were killed in Maroof and Arghistan districts of the same province, (Kandahar). According to Achakzai, nine Taliban fighters were killed in an ambush in Arghistan district and five others in Maroof.
Pakistani ID cards were discovered and seized from the killed insurgents, he said.
