KABUL: The bodies of Afghan refugees drowned in Turkey are planned to be flown to Kabul, Afghan diplomatic mission in Ankara said.
Habib Khenjani, acting Afghan ambassador to Ankara said Tuesday that the state-run Ariana Airlines and the private Kam Air were ordered to bring the bodies home.
28 Afghans trying to illegally enter Turkey soil from Iran died after their boat sank in Turkey, according to official reports.
“There are three bodies in Istanbul. All the bodies will be flown to Kabul on Wednesday and Friday,” Khenjani said.
“Totally 58 bodies have been found and 28 Afghans have been identified among them.”
Khenjani said that three children were among the dead.
Officials in Turkey said that the boat sank had 60 people onboard.
This is not the first tragic incident for Afghan refugees in Turkey. Tens of Afghans trying to illegally enter Turkey, had been shot dead by Turkish border guards in the past few years.
The ministry of foreign affairs called on people not to risk illegal travels.
Afghanistan is among five countries with most of refugees, according to the Amnesty International’s report.
War, poverty, corruption and joblessness are considered as main elements of people’s migration to abroad.
