KABUL: Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah met on Saturday with government peace negotiation team, and assured them of the government’s strong support in the talks with the Taliban.
He instructed the negotiation team to engage into the negotiation with a single prospective and essential coordination.
He underscored the tradition assembly’s (Consultative Loya Jirga) call for peace and said that formation of the negotiation team was diverse and comprehensive. The negotiators, Abdullah said would represent the victims of the decades-long war in Afghanistan.
The high council for national reconciliation said that the negotiation team briefed Abdullah on the agenda, readiness, information and procedures regarding the intra-Afghan negotiations.
The government representatives said that the preparation for intra-Afghan talks has been made based on the decision of Loya Jirga.
According to reports, for a better cohesion, the issues related to the peace process have been divided into four committees; preparation of negotiations, agenda, legal issues and victims of war.
The hopes stood again after over 3,000 representative of the people from across the country called for the release of the 400 dangerous Taliban prisoners, whom the government said committed major crimes. President Ashraf Ghani said that the decision to let the rest-400 of 5,000 Taliban prisoners – agreed in a US peace deal with the Taliban in late February – which also laid out the American troops reduction – was out of his authority.
The Taliban said that the intra-Afghan negotiations, in which the controversial issues of formation of the next government, women rights, freedom of speech and achievements gained during past two decades would be discussed, would be held after one week of the release of its all prisoners.
