AT-KABUL: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the country Abdullah Abdullah on Monday reiterated that national interests and human rights would not be compromised in talks with the Taliban.
Addressing a gathering held in Loya Jirga tent to mark the first death anniversary of the late vice president Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim, the chief executive said that he wanted peace but with dignity and would not betray blood of those soldiers and policemen who rendered sacrifices in the line of duty.
He said that those who believe that they could get power through violence are mistaken. “Only those will be welcomed who renounce insurgency. Afghanistan is home to all Afghans.”
Hamid Karzai, President Ashraf Ghani, Abdullah and others paid rich tribute to late Fahim. The officials laid floral wreath on his grave to mark his death anniversary.
Ex-President Hamid Karzai on the occasion termed his late vice-president a patriot person.
Karzai said that Fahim never accepted the Durand Line as internationally recognized border because he never wanted to divide Afghanistan.
The former president said that Fahim wanted durable peace and stability and played vital role to strengthen the national unity.
President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani said that Marshal Fahim always supported the government and played major role to defend the country and bring peace.
He said the country would have not faced so many problems if Fahim was alive. The late vice president supported the electoral process and the government, Ghani said.
Abdul Rasoul Sayaf, a jihadi leader, said that Fahim respected all those who defended the country.
The late vice president Fahim died of cardiac arrest on March 9, 2014 at age 56. He was prominent commander of Jamiat-e-Islami during the Afghan-Soviet war. After collapse of Dr. Najib’s government, Fahim served as national security advisor, defense minister, deputy for transition administration and vice president.
