KABUL: The Taliban rebels have overrun some parts of Faizabad, the capital city of northern Badakhshan province after several days of rigorous fighting which is still underway.
Provincial Police Spokesman, Sanaullah Rohani said that security forces have retreated from PD 8th of Faizabad after a couple days of fighting with the militants. He said that the area is controlled by the Taliban rebels. “Right now, the security forces conducted a tactical retreat to protect the lives of the civilians,” he added.
He also said that 29 Taliban were killed and 64 others wounded. According to him, at least seven Afghan security forces lost their lives during the fighting and three others were injured.
Fighting across the country has been continuing parallel to the fragile peace negotiations which are under discussion between the government delegation and the Taliban in Qatari capital, Doha.
