KABUL: The ministry of public health said that wearing masks would be compulsory in crowded areas and government departments.
This comes as the Afghan officials in a recent event of the Afghanistan Football Premier League didn’t wear masks. The acting minister of the public health was also among them without wearing a mask.
Some medical experts suggested that if the government officials themselves didn’t behold these recommendations, the common people would also not take the threats of the virus seriously.
An internist specialist, Abduljabar Mominyar said that most of the patients show coronavirus symptoms.
“When they tell people to wear masks but they’re not wearing it, the people don’t take the recommendations serious to wear masks,” Mominyar said.
But in reaction to the officials’ lack of masks wearing, a spokesman for the ministry of health, Masoma Jafari said, “wearing masks prevent the spread of the virus and if 95 percent of population wears masks, we can prevent some lockdowns and restrictions.”
Based on the cabinet decision, wearing masks in government departments is set to be compulsory since last Saturday.
This comes as Afghanistan recorded 53 new cases of coronavirus within past 24 hours. During this round of clock, at least three patients died and 45 others recovered.
But health ministry’s spokesman said that Afghanistan is a good condition, warning that people should observe social distances and medical measures to prevent the further spread of the virus.
