KABUL: The Leader of Hezb-e-Islami, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar on Monday landed in Pakistan to discuss the Afghan peace process with the Pakistani officials. He held a meeting with the Pakistani minister of foreign affairs, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and they exchanged views on the Afghan peace process. According to Pakistani media, the Pakistan foreign minister assured him of cooperation with the Afghan peace to end the 19 year long war in Afghanistan.
Hekmatyar will meet Pakistan President, Arif Alvi and Prime Minisster Imran Khan.
Earlier, the chairman of the high council for national reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah visited Pakistan in measure of trust-building and consensus on the Afghan peace and intra-Afghan talks. He met high-ranking Pakistan officials and discussed the peace process which is underway between the government and Taliban delegations in Qatari capital, Doha.
The Afghan leaders are seeking Pakistan’s assistance in regards to the Afghan peace process as the country has full influence on the Taliban. Islamabad has been accused of providing safe havens and training centers for the Taliban in the last 19 years.
