KABUL: The Afghan security forces have killed at least 34 Taliban fighters in latest military stings conducted in Zabul province. 12 more Taliban rebels were wounded in the operation carried out in Shinkai district of the province, provincial officials said Monday.
Governor Spokesman, Gul Islam Sial said that the militants were killed in a counterattack by the Afghan security forces after they attempted to storm the security checkpoints in the district.
Four Afghan security forces were also injured in the clash, he said, adding that they were in good health condition.
Meanwhile, the ministry of defense said that three Taliban were killed in clashes with the security forces in Shalimzai district of the province.
The Taliban group has yet to comment in regards.
Zabul is among insecure provinces in south of Afghanistan, where the Taliban are active, carrying out subversive acts against the government forces and installations.
