KABUL: The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission has called on the Taliban to reduce violence and agree on a comprehensive ceasefire.
In reaction to a car bombing attack in western Ghor province, the commission said that such subversive acts were in contrary with the international norms and standards of human rights.
“We want the Taliban to halt killing of civilians and reach an understating of a ceasefire,” the commission said in a statement o Monday. “Ceasefire is the wish of the people of Afghanistan.”
Intensification of violence could undermine the Afghan peace process and could turn the process toward a drastic hurdle. In the meantime, the British embassy in Kabul in a statement condemned surge in violence and termed it as cruelly.
“We are concerned with the high number of people were killed or maimed in southern Helmand and call on all sides to reach a ceasefire,” the statement added.
This comes as the contact teams of the government and Taliban negotiation teams set on for talks on Monday evening to discuss the remaining controversial issues of the agendas of the intra-Afghan negotiations. A member of the government negotiation team, Nadir Nadiri said that the negotiations would be continuing to find a proper solution.
Earlier, the US special envoy for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad warned the Taliban that intensification of violence could threaten the deal signed between the US and Taliban on February 29th.
“Unfounded charges of violations and inflammatory rhetoric do not advance peace. Instead, we should pursue strict adherence to all articles of the U.S.-Taliban Agreement and U.S.-Afghanistan Joint Declaration and not neglect the commitment to gradually reduce violence,” he wrote in a tweet, referring to the recent attacks conducted by the militants across the country.
