KABUL: As students studied inside a private education center in western Kabul on Saturday afternoon, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device, killing at least 18 people and wounding 57, underscoring the failure in marathon peace talks in Doha that gave rise to escalation of insurgent hostilities in Afghanistan.
The Interior Ministry spokesman, Tareq Aryan, told Afghanistan Times that 18 people were killed and 57 others were wounded in a suicide bombing near a private education institute in west of Kabul.
The suicide bomber on foot wanted to enter Kosar education center in Dash-e-Barchi neighborhood, he said. “He blew himself up in the alley near the center when the police identified and intercepted him, said Aryan.
The Taliban have rejected involved in the attack.
The bombing was the latest in a deadly series of attacks in the month since Afghan and Taliban negotiators started peace talks in Doha, Qatar, that were aimed at reaching a political settlement and a cease-fire in the 19-year-old war. The Taliban insurgents have been staging large-scale attacks against Afghan forces and civilians and expanding their terror operations across Afghanistan.
Frequent deadly attacks have taken place in west of Kabul in the past years. In a suicide bombing last year in the same neighborhood, at least 38 students of a private education center were killed and dozens were wounded. The Taliban also denied responsibility for that attack.
