KABUL: The United States air force launched strikes on Taliban hideouts in Wardak province close to Kabul Sunday night.
The US-NATO Spokesman in Afghanistan Sonny Leggett, said Monday that the air attack was carried for defending Afghan security forces.
He called the attack as “target” and according to a US-Taliban peace deal, saying that five insurgents were killed in the strike, but no civilian casualties were reported.
This is the second US air attack against Taliban since Washington signed a peace deal with the insurgents in February. The first was carried out last week in Helmand to prevent the militants’ advance towards Lashkar Gah.
Taliban who have stopped attacking US soldiers, criticized the Helmand air strike as “against the peace agreement”, but US troops defended it as a support for the Afghan security forces which was mentioned in the deal.
Vice President Sarwar Danesh called on Taliban to end killing of time in Doha and killing of people in Afghanistan.
