KABUL: Although Afghanistan saw a significant drop in the cases of covid-19 pandemic, the easing of lockdowns and cold weather could likely turn the country towards its second wave.
29 years old, Abdullah Raikh is infected with the virus. He says that he was tested positive after the lockdowns were eased and restaurants and wedding halls were reopened. “I went to a restaurant and within two days I lost my appetite.” Meanwhile, the ministry of public health confirmed that the virus is on a rising level.
A spokesman for the ministry, Masouma Jafari said, “The virus has increased 26 percent within the past two to three weeks, therefore, the precautionary measures should be adhered by the people.”
Cold and polluted weather as well as social gatherings, Jafari said, “are the main reasons behind the spread of the virus.”

The total tally of the cases surpasses 41,000, of which, 34,326 patients were recovered and 1,536 lost their lives.
