KABUL: The operatives of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) have killed Mohammad Hanif known as Abdullah, a senior leader of al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent. Hanif is from Karachi of Pakistan.
The NDS in a statement said on Tuesday that two Pakistani women were also detained in the operation which was conducted by the intelligence operatives in western Farah province. “Hanif was a very close aide to Asim Omar – he was also deputy Amir for al-Qaida.”
According to the statement, Hanif was in close cooperation with the Taliban and he was recently shifted to Farah from neighboring Helmand province.
Under the February 29th peace deal signed between the US and the Taliban, the Taliban are stipulated to cut links with al-Qaida Terrorist Network, who was given a safe haven in the Taliban regime back in 1990s even after the network claimed the September, 11, attack in the US. The Taliban group are also called on to fight the IS-K or so called Daesh group and other terrorist groups that threaten the US and its allies.
But the statements from the Afghan government and UN assistance mission in Afghanistan claimed that the militant group has not cut ties with al-Qaida and that it rather sought its support in fighting against the Afghan security forces in Afghanistan.
