KABUL: A local police commander and ten of his comrades were killed in a Taliban ambush in northern Badakhshan province.
Provincial Council Member, Abdullah Naji said that the clash occurred in Pul-e-Keely area of Jurom district. He identified the commander as Sayed Omar.
But a witness, who was talking on condition of anonymity, said that 12 policemen were killed and ten others wounded in the ambush. He said the Taliban has taken hostage another four policemen.
The Taliban Spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid said that the insurgents have overrun six security checkpoints in Juram district of the province. He claimed that 18 policemen were killed by the militants.
Provincial Security officials didn’t say anything in regards as of now. The Taliban has been intensifying its hostilities with staging rounds of attacks on the security forces across the country.
