KABUL: At least 247 drug runners were found guilty of drug trafficking and were sentenced to years of behind bars in the past one month, officials said Tuesday.
A statement issued by the Courts of Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) said that the drug traffickers were sentenced to five-30 years’ of incarceration after examining their dossiers by the primary Court of CJTF.
According to the statement, 33 public servants and three women were among the convicted indicted.
At the same period, CNP and other intelligence forces have arrested 88 suspected drug traffickers including six women during operation in different provinces. Dossiers of the detained drug runners have been sent to a related organ for further inquiry.
Among the culprits, 16 of them were those who planned to smuggle heroin through Hamid Karzai International Airport to India, noted the statement.
Counter Narcotics Police (CNP) had also seized 742kgheroin, 19kg morphine, 452kg opium, 481kg hashish, 454kg crystal, 260kg poppy and 10 liters of alcoholic beverages from the aforementioned drug runners, the statement added.
After examining the evidence and arguments from both sides, the CJTF court has convicted the accused traffickers.
All the convicted drug traffickers would have defense attorneys for their legal defense and will be convicted after separate judicial trials based on the evidence brought before the court and the Counter Narcotics law of Afghanistan.
