KABUL: The regular shortage of electricity in Kabul city has caused closure of dozens of factories where 15,000 workers have lost their jobs.
Kabul residents are suffering problems from electricity shortage in the last one month and are provided with power only six hours a day.
The power electricity company (Breshna) says that Uzbekistan has reduced exporting power from 450 megawatts to 380 megawatts.
Afghanistan is dependant to the neighboring Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Iran for electricity power.
Kabul city needs 550 megawatts of electricity, but only 265 megawatts are provided.
1,500 small and big factories are active in Kabul that need stable power.
Karim Azimi, from Kabul chamber of industries said Wednesday that the factories are provided with power only four hours a day.
He said that the power shortage forced many of the factories to stop activities, because they suffer a lot of loss.
Sakhi Paiman, the owner of a factory in the Industrial Park in eastern Kabul, said he suffers hundreds of thousands of Afs every day due to power shortage.
He has fired 150 of his workers due to this problem.
