KABUL: Hamdullah Mohib, President Ashraf Ghani’s National Security Adviser calls for the relocation of the ongoing negotiating team to inside the country and says that the Afghan and Taliban negotiating teams to continue the remaining rounds of the intra–Afghan talks at home.
Mohib wrote Saturday on his Twitter account that the government of Afghan would agree any place that Taliban choose for the talks inside the country.
He said that Afghanistan would be ready to hold talks in any part of the country that the Taliban want, arguing that negotiating inside the country would increase trust building and would help Afghans to monitor and own the peace negotiations.
According to Mohib, the peace talks inside Afghanistan could prevent extra expenditure and would be effective, and negotiators will be aware of the people’s demands.
“Holding negotiations outside Afghanistan suits the interests of foreigners as the history shows that such reconciliation cannot ensure the Afghans’ wills and interests,” said Mohib.
Taliban did not immediately comment on the demand.
The talks on peace began between Afghan and Taliban delegations three months ago, but nothing tangible has been achieved yet.
Just recently the two sides agreed on the procedures and rules of the peace talks and it is expected that the talks will be delayed for three weeks, but a final decision is yet to be taken.
