KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump complained that the 2020 presidential election had been “the election of a third world country.”
“A young military man working in Afghanistan told me that elections in Afghanistan are far more secure and much better run than the USA’s 2020 Election,” Mr. Trump tweeted, adding, “Ours, with its millions and millions of corrupt Mail-In Ballots, was the election of a third world country.
Trump also called out the Supreme Court, claiming that it was “totally incompetent and weak on the massive Election Fraud that took place in the 2020 Presidential Election.” Trump also claimed to have absolute proof of the fraud, saying that the court had refused to look at it.
“If we have corrupt elections, we have no country!” he added.
Twitter marked both of those tweets — as well as several others from the president’s account — with the warning: “This claim about election fraud is disputed.”
US Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Roland Kobia in a tweet said, “It is a great pleasure to eventually get confirmation by the US highest political level that the elections in Afghanistan, which the EU always supported against all odds, were good ones. They should hence be respected by all instead of designing other iffy plans.”
But this was not an easy at all. In response to Trump’s claims, US media has pointed out that the September 29, 2019, presidential elections in Afghanistan were certainly not safe for those voting and that over two million people cast their ballots amid Taliban threats of violence and attacks.
Both the candidates, Ashraf Ghani and Dr. Abdulalh Abdullah accused each other of fraud in the election, and at the same day, they took the oath of office as the President of Afghanistan. After months of medication by the Afghan leaders, including the former President Hamid Karzai, eventually Ghani and Abdullah agreed for a power-sharing agreement.
