KABUL: A magnetic bomb attached to the vehicle of the public protection forces in PD 8 of Kabul city, killed three people, including the spokesman of the department.
The incident took place Sunday morning.
The interior ministry said in a statement that Zia Wadan, the spokesman for the public protection forces was on his way to work along with his two colleagues when their vehicle was hit by a bomb. According to the ministry, one person was wounded in the attack.
The attack was not immediately claimed by anyone, including the Taliban, whom the government blamed for the similar attacks in the past that targeted the media professionals.
The perpetrators of the attacks detained by the Afghan security forces confirmed their membership in the Taliban group, the interior ministry said.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani condemned the attack on Wadan, saying that such attacks are in contrast with the Islamic regulation.
“The intensification of violence by the Taliban shows that they are not willing for peace,” the presidential palace said in a statement.
Afghanistan has recently been hit with an upswing in violence amid the fragile peace negotiations which are currently held between the negotiating teams of the government and Taliban in Qatari capital, Doha. The insurgents and government escalated their hostilities to gain leverage on the negotiation table.
