KABUL: Officials in the northern province of Balkh said that the Taliban fighters shot dead a woman in Zarei district.
Zarei district governor Saif Rahman Rahmani said Monday that the militants accused the woman of cooperation with the security forces. The incident took place Sunday night nearby a police checkpoint in the capital of the district.
The insurgents dragged the woman out of her house and took her to an area under their control, district governor said, adding that the body was found in ditch.
Rahmani denied the woman’s involvement in helping government and said that the militants killed her just because her house is near a police checkpoint. She was purportedly 42 years old.
Provincial Spokesman Adel Shah Adel said that within past two months the Taliban gunned down two women and one man on charges of cooperation with the government in Zarei district of the province.
Taliban have recently accelerated targeting civilians and government employees, while another round of the peace talks began between Afghan and Taliban negotiators in Qatar’s capital Doha, aiming to forge a political settlement and put an end to decade long.
