KABUL: Dozens of worshipers have attacked a local radio station in Kunduz province following a proactive sermon given by an Imam of a mosque during Friday praying.
The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) in a statement said that the attack was incited by the Imam of a local mosque.
“AJSC is shocked by the attack on Radio Zohra, a local Radio in Kunduz province. We condemn the attack in the strongest terms and urge the government to undertake a thorough investigation so the perpetrators are brought to justice,” the statement added.
“The attack was incited by the Imam of a local mosque. AJSC is closely following the incident with local officials, the statement added.
“Protection of journalists and media is crucial, particularly at this stage where target killing of journalists has already constricted the space for press freedom and free flow of information,” it added.
Kunduz province also confirmed the incident, but did not provide further details.
Editor-in-Chief of the Radio Zohra, Mohsen Ahmadi said the Imam and a number of worshipers attacked the radio on Friday, and called for a serious and legal action against the perpetrators.
