KABUL: Officials in the northern province of Baghlan say that eight security forces were killed after Taliban fighters attacked their outpost.
The incident took place late Sunday along the Baghlan-Samangan highway at the outskirts of provincial capital of Pol-e-Khomri, where another two forces were wounded, while two soldiers went missing.
According to officials, the attackers completely destroyed the outpost and the bodies of soldiers were buried under the debris. Two military tanks were also destroyed.
Taliban have their own checkpoints along the Baghlan-Samangan highway and extort buses and trucks, with government officials claiming that the insurgents gain two million Afs per day.
The relatives of victim security forces blame the government for carelessness, saying no reinforcement was sent to support the trapped forces.
Farid Sayedkhili, an army officer in Baghlan, however claimed that the soldiers drove Taliban back and killed a number of them.
Taliban did not immediately comment on the attack.
