KABUL: President Ashraf Ghani has fired his Finance Minister, Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, citing failure on collecting of taxes and incompetence in other areas behind his removal, the Administrative Office of the President said on Saturday.
Mr. Arghandiwal received votes of confidence from lawmakers and took charge as Finance Minister last year in November. He has been a caretaker since March.
Ghani has appointed Khalid Payanda as acting minister. He has been serving as deputy minister since 2018.
Delay in the collection of taxes, negligence in accumulating revenue and lack of cooperation with the joint delegation to assess the illegal appointments, weak management, lack of commitment to good governance values, not obeying the article 77 of the Constipation in his activities have been mentioned as key factors behind his dismissal.
The replacement comes while there are a number of ministers who are still running office despite being failed to get a vote of confidences from the parliament.
