KABUL: At least 28 Taliban militants have been killed and four others were wounded during latest crackdowns carried out by the Afghan security forces in different provinces within the past 24 hours, defense ministry said on Saturday.
Taliban insurgents were planning to attack Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) positions in Arghandab district of southern Kandahar province, which they faced Afghan security forces’ counter attack, the ministry said in a statement.
At least 18 rebels were killed during retaliatory attacks in the district, it added. A large amount of the enemy ammunition and weapons were also destroyed.
Also nine Taliban rebels were killed and four others wounded in Gizab district of Uruzgan in reciprocal operation, the statement added.
Statement said that four IEDs which were placed by Taliban on public roads were discovered and defused by Afghan forces.
Similarly, the Afghan security forces succeeded in foiling a car bomb attack in Baghlan province.
A car which was loaded with explosives was targeted before reaching the ANDSF base. One suicide attacker was killed and the car bombing defused by the Afghan security forces, the statement concluded.
