KABUL: Unidentified armed men have shot dead a religious cleric in Sayed Khel district of central Parwan province, authority said Monday.
Provincial Police Chief, Mohammad Sadeq Hashimi named the Imam as Abdul Raqib, saying that he was targeted after the performance of evening prayers on Sunday. A doctor and a child were inside the car when the Imam was shot with bullets.
“The gunmen stopped the car, asked the name of the Imam, contacted each other and after reorganization, opened fire on him.” Hashimi quoted the doctor who was on the spot, as saying.
The attackers escaped the area, he said, adding that the investigation has been underway. The Taliban are strongly active in some parts of Parwan, where they pose server security threats to the government officials.
