KABUL: The Afghan negotiating team held talks with the chairman of Muhammadiyah Ulema Organization and former Vice President of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla in Qatari capital of Doha.
The Afghan negotiating team said in a tweet that Kalla said that the continuation of violence in an Islamic society raises complicated questions about the peace process and that the negotiating sides were expected to ensure peace and security.
Chief of the Afghan negotiating team, Mohammad Masoom Stanekzai stressed on reaching a comprehensive ceasefire as the top priority of the Afghan delegation.
“Mr. Stanekzai praised Indonesia for its constructive role in the peace process and called for continued cooperation in supporting the Afghanistan peace process.”
The Afghan delegation said in another tweet that ensuring peace in the country is an Islamic and national responsibility of both sides. “Afghans must resolve their issues internally and not make them dependent on others,” the negotiating team said. “The responsibility for killing Afghans lies with those who seek excuses to delay negotiations and continue the unjust war.”
This comes as sources privy to the issue, said that there has been no progress in the negotiation between the government and Taliban in the second round of the intra-Afghan negotiations. The US new administration announced that it would review the US-Taliban peace deal signed last February.
