KABUL: A delegation has been appointed to investigate whether the people killed by the security forces were civilians or gunmen affiliated to irresponsible armed commander Abdulghani Alipor in the central province of Wardak.
The National Security Council in a statement said that the delegation was led by Gen. Abdullah Ibad, deputy of national directorate of security.
The delegation also included members of the Wardak provincial council, advisor for President Ashraf Ghan in public affairs and some influential figures in Wardak, according to the statement. The delegation would investigate the issue impartially and legislatively.
On Saturday, the ministry of interior said that nine gunmen affiliated to Alipor were killed after they opened fire on the police forces in Behsood area of Wardak. “Provincial police chief went to Behsod 1 and Behsod 2 of Wardak to evaluate the security situations and introduce new police chiefs for the security checkpoints but faced armed confrontation by the fighters affiliated to Alipor,” he said, adding that 16 people including security forces and residence were wounded in the incident.
The incident faced widespread reaction by some Afghan officials. Former President, Hamid Karzai called on the government to swiftly resolve the issue. Mohammad Karim Khalili, leader of Hezb-e Wahdat-e Islami Afghanistan said that the government targeted the peaceful protesters.
