KABUL: One police was killed and two other officers wounded in a car bombing in the Chamtala area of Khogyani district in the eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday, provincial officials confirmed.
The incident happened at 5: 30am, according to local officials who said that the bomber drove his explosive-filled car to the police checkpoint.
Nobody immediately claimed responsibility for the attack but the bombing took place in the area with Taliban’s active presence, who frequently carry out attacks against the Afghan defense and security forces.
14 local uprising forces were killed in the Sherzad district of Nangarhar province this week which was claimed by the Taliban.
Violence is escalating in different parts of the country since the new administration in the United States stated to review the 2020 peace deal signed by the then president Donald Trump with the Taliban. Under the deal, the United States will withdraw all troops from Afghanistan by May this year, with the insurgents vowing in return not to let international terrorist organizations such as al-Qaeda to use Afghan soil as a platform for threatening the US and its allies in Europe.
Taliban threatened last week to restart violence especially attacks on the foreign forces if Washington did not stick to the peace deal signed last February in the Persian Gulf’s Arab state of Qatar.
