KABUL: Abdullah Abdullah, the chairman of the high council for national reconciliation calls on the regional countries having influences on the Taliban to persuade the militants for resuming peace negotiations with Kabul as the insurgents are apparently not interested in resolve Afghanistan’s problems through dialogue.
Taliban negotiating team who held some sessions with a delegation was sent by the government to Qatar. According to the Afghan delegation, their Taliban counterparts refused their demands to hold meetings since January.
“We expect the Taliban movement, all the influential countries, the countries interested in and support the peace process to encourage them (Taliban) come back to the negotiation table. No decision should be made about Afghanistan behind closed doors. We are grateful to Qatar for hosting the negotiations, we thank the United States for its efforts to begin the talks and we thank the Islamic and regional states for supporting the talks, and once again I demand them to support the Afghan people’s will,” Abdullah said Wednesday.
Taliban leaders paid visit to Iran, Russia and Turkmenistan since their negotiating team stopped talking to Kabul.
Mohammad Naeim, the insurgents’ political spokesman, said that the talks were not stopped and had a delay.
Kabul and other big cities have been the scene of increased violence since the intra-Afghan talks began in September while people expected cease fire.
Abdullah said that increased violence was not acceptable.
“We haven’t intensified violence, but they (the government of Afghanistan) cause the violence by bombardments,” Naeem said.
The United States new administration says that the violence is high in Afghanistan and they would not withdraw their soldiers in May previously agreed by Trump.
