KABUL: The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) calls on the government of Afghanistan and Taliban militants to urgently resume the stalled intra-Afghan negotiations.
“We call on the two sides’ delegations to return to the negotiation table and we emphasize on the end of war to reduce the unjustifiable expenses of war and want an immediate cease fire,” the Commission wrote on Twitter on Sunday.
The second round of the intra-Afghan talks stopped just a few days after its restart on January 4. The Afghan negotiating team accuses Taliban of not attending the meetings.
Taliban’s senior officials went on a regional tour after their negotiators didn’t meet Kabul’s delegation in Qatar. The militants’ leaders went to Iran, Russia and Turkmenistan where they met senior officials and discussed the situation in Afghanistan.
The human rights commission said that violence takes civilian lives every day and it had almost disappointed the people of a cease fire and peace.
“We reiterate our cease fire demand and call on you (Afghan and Taliban teams) form a joint committee to monitor cease fire and investigate violence including targeted killings, attacks against journalists and human rights activists.”
The demand comes while intensive clashes between Afghan forces and Taliban are going on in 20 of 34 provinces.
Vice President, Sarwar Danesh had earlier said that Taliban were not honest and serious in peace talks since the beginning of the negotiations in September. Danesh accused the insurgent group of taking the talks out of Qatar, where the negotiations were held.
