KABUL: The Taliban militants have abducted 11 people working for a dam in the western province of Herat, officials in the province said.
The incident happened on Sunday around the Pashdan dam in the Karrokh district, according to Wakil Ahmad Karrokhi, a member of the provincial council.
Karrokhi said Monday that the workers were busy in a canal building project, when the militants attacked them and took them to the Pashtoon Zarkhoon district.
Provincial governor and police in Herat did not comment on the incident.
Pashdan dam is in the Karrokh district east of the provincial capital of the same name.
Provincial officials say that the dam project is 50 per cent completed and is to irrigate 13,000 hectares of farm lands besides producing two megawatts of electricity power.
