KABUL: The Ministry of Finance says it plans to reduce money paid to President Ghani and his two deputies as salary to increase teachers’ payments.
Khaled Payenda, acting finance minister, said Tuesday that the salaries of low-level government employees and teachers would notably increase from the New Persian Year (beginning on March 21) onwards.
He said that they needed to decrease the high salaries of senior government officials including President Ghani and two vice presidents and advisers.
The lawmakers twice rejected the next year’s budget draft as the finance ministry did not equalize government employees’ salaries.
The government accused legislators of including 2,000 personal projects in the next year’s budget.
