KABUL: Residents and local officials in northern Sar-e-Pul province expressed their deep concerns over mounting insecurity in the province. They said that if the situation prevailed, some districts in the province may fall to the Taliban.
Massoma Ramazani, the secretary of Sar-e-Pul provincial council, told TOLOnews that most parts of Kohistanat and Sozma Qala districts of the province are under the Taliban’s control.
She said that over a hundred of families have fled their houses in the districts to the provincial capital.
In the meantime, the internally displaced people (IDPs) urged the government for support. They asked the incumbent government to pave the ground for their return to their villages.
They said that both the government and welfare organizations have turned their blind eye to situation of displaced people in the province. Mohsin, an IDP, said that his family is hardly making ends meet. “We now rely on our two children who are working all day to bring a few breads,” he added.
Makhdom, another IDP said that he along with his families has fled the district four months ago. He added that police and local officials have been trapped in the district.
The acting governor of Sar-e-Pul, Abdul Jabar Haqbin, admitted that insecurity has increased in the districts. He blamed widespread unemployment, family disputes and rivalries between political parties for insecurity in the districts.
