KABUL: At least 25 Taliban rebels have been killed and 20 others were wounded during latest crackdowns conducted by the Afghan security forces in different provinces across the country in the past 24 hours, defense ministry said on Sunday.
The Afghan security forces supported by Afghan Air Forces targeted Taliban insurgents in Arghandab, Panjwae and Zherai districts of southern Kandahar, in which 13 Taliban militants were killed and seven others were wounded, the ministry said in a statement.
At least 50 rounds of mines that were planted by the Taliban to target civilians and military members were discovered and defused.
Some weapons and ammunition of the enemy were also destroyed during the raids, he added.
Similarly, seven Taliban rebels were killed and seven others wounded in an airstrike in Miansheen district of Kandahar.
According to the statement, the Taliban’s Deputy Governor for Chemtal district of Balkh province was killed with four rebels as result of ANA operations.
Six other militants were also wounded and some amounts of their weapons were destroyed, the statement concluded.
