KABUL: The government has banned riding of unlicensed motorbikes to prevent the subversive and criminal activities across the country, authorities said on Tuesday.
The interior ministry said in a statement that the decision was made by the National Security Council.
According to the statement the governmental organizations and individuals should register their motorbikes to receive licenses at the Department of Traffic.
“Riding a motorbike, registered in one province, is not allowed in another province,” the statement added. “Riding motorbike with a pillion passengers is also banned.”
The motorbikes used for service by the private sectors such as restaurants, and online shopping would be devoid of restriction after they receive confirmation of the ministry.
The sport motorbikes would be provided with license in coordination with the National Olympic Committee. The ministry also gave 60-days deadline to the riders to register their motorbikes and receive licenses from the Traffic Department.
This comes as earlier First Vice President Amrullah Saleh in a statement said that riding motorbikes with pillion passengers was banned in Kabul as the terrorist used unlicensed motorbikes for the hit-and-run assassination.
