AT-KABUL: At least 17 protestors were killed and more than 50 were injured as result of a suicide bombing in southeastern Khost city of the country, local officials said on Thursday.
The deadly suicide attack in eastern Khost province has targeted demonstrators, who were protesting against the provincial officials to resign for alleged corruption allegations.
Provincial Police Chief, Faizullah Ghairat, confirmed the attack and death toll, saying the suicide attacker detonated his explosives among the protesters who had staged protest demonstration near the governor’s residence, accusing him of corruption and lands usurpation.
Chief of the parliamentary defense committee, Homayoun Homayoun, is also among the injured persons. He was shifted to provincial hospital. Some of the injured people were in critical condition.
Taliban, in a statement, have denied links to the attack. Spokesman for the group Zabihullah Mujahid said that the attacker was not sent by them.
